“Adin stopped by the office today to deliver 10 instruments and $700 he and his “Guys in Ties” bandmates raised through a benefit concert for MHOF.
Thanks again Guys in Ties! Your donation will put many new instruments into the hands of students this school year.”

“Here is our beautiful volunteer Clarisse with the fabulous nursing staff in the City of Hope Infusion Center! Every week, twice a week, our volunteers at City of Hope are greeted by these other “angels.” The warmth and enthusiasm that the nurses show for our program is unparalleled. We are forever grateful for the support that we constantly receive from these heroes. Their faces light up when one of our volunteers comes into infusion – always greeting us with huge smiles, and then guiding us to patients so that we can shine a little light into someones day. The nursing staff at City of Hope and all of our participating hospitals are truly an integral part of our success. We are forever inspired by your giving nature, your generous hearts and your endless compassion for others. THANK YOU!”

The strategy of ACAM’s program is three-fold:
1. At the individual level.
Students, in order to explore and develop their individual talents, engage concurrently in all aspects of ACAM’s program. Students develop self-confidence and a love of performance: they are proud of what they have learned and want to share it with others. In the group classes students learn to work cooperatively, commit to a common goal and be responsible to self and the group. Performances inspire others to engage in learning an instrument and becoming involved. “I can do that, too!”
2. At the ensemble level.
Having created a large learning community at the individual level, students are ready to hone their skills in a collective environment through ensemble work and eventually, in an orchestra setting.
3. At the interdisciplinary level.
Through collective self-discipline, confidence, and an ability to coordinate work towards group production and performance, an interdisciplinary group will be created that will pull together all the three arts components of the ACAM: dance, music and theatre.

“Because incarcerated teen girls warrant age-appropriate, gender-specific and culturally sensitive rehabilitative services, AYP has developed an innovative gender-responsive intervention that combines yoga and creative art.
An overwhelming number of incarcerated teen girls are victims themselves, caught in cycles of violence and abuse. Nationally, 70 to 90 percent of girls in the juvenile justice system have been sexually abused. A young girl often runs away to escape an abusive environment. On the streets, she engages in survival crimes in order to get by. By the time she is arrested and enters the system, she has experienced high levels of trauma that have resulted in significant mental health issues.
The goal of The Art of Yoga Project is to break this cycle.”

Why does Happy Hats do what they do?
“In 1991 after the loss of her younger brother, father, mother and grandmother to cancer, Sheri Schrier founded Happy Hats for Kids in Hospitals, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. It broke her heart as she watched helplessly as the physical pain and emotional trauma of hair loss devastated her loved ones. She set out on a mission to put smiles back on the faces of hospitalized children.”
