American Youth Symphony
“AYS and A Place Called Home (APCH) have partnered to bring classical music to the South Central Los Angeles community. By hosting classical music concerts and experiences both in-person and online, AYS and APCH hope to foster an enthusiastic classical music audience in the South Central neighborhood. Learn about the 2020 concert here and stay tuned for another concert with APCH in Spring 2021.”
The Friends of the Children’s Museum at La Habra
Even in the midst of a pandemic the Children’s Museum at La Habra is helping with digital content.
“We are thrilled to share our on-line educational content with you! Click on these links for a variety of fun and engaging activities for you and your little ones to fill your days at home! Our amazing Museum educators have been busy creating fun learning opportunities for little ones to dabble with science, engineering, art, storytelling, math and more.”
Sharefest Community Development
Sharefest Community Development received a grant in support of their Workday 2020, an annual day of community service projects. They expect to mobilize more than 1,250 volunteers who will make improvements to community facilities that serve over 30,000 people annually. Sharefest’s mission is: “building strong South Bay communities by fostering volunteerism and preparing youth to lead positive change.” Sharefest targets underserved youth at greatest risk of dropping out of high school and engages them in after-school and summer programming that promotes high school graduation and college attendance while fostering leadership, life skills and a commitment to community service. Sharefest also received a grant from the Leo Buscaglia Foundation in 2017.
House of Ruth
House of Ruth received a grant to support the operating expenses of one of their transitional shelter houses. This will help them provide a safe and secure transitional shelter program to enable their families to overcome barriers to self-sufficiency within two-years. The mission of the Los Angeles House of Ruth is to provide transitional and emergency housing, permanent supportive housing and permanent housing for homeless and battered women and their children. They believe that when homeless individuals receive the services they need in a timely and engaging manner they can overcome obstacles to self-sufficiency. The Los Angeles House of Ruth also received a grant from the Leo Buscaglia Foundation in 2013.
L.O.V.E. (Living Our Vision Everyday) Foundation
L.O.V.E. (Living Our Vision Everyday) Foundation received a grant to help support their Sanctuary of Love Resource and Referral Center operations and their outreach, resource and referral events and transformational self-empowerment workshops. The funds will also help them grow and improve their network of partner volunteers. The mission of L.O.V.E. is to transform the lives of homeless and vulnerable young people throughout Hollywood and Los Angeles through educational mentorship and support services to heal the mind, body and spirit, empowering them to be self-sufficient and innovative leaders. Their team of “Love Warriors” collaborate with other nonprofits, volunteer groups, schools, businesses and local government to help our most vulnerable youth by providing the resources, support, training and unconditional love that is missing in their lives.
