A Sense of Home

March 8, 2020

“Home is Everything

For each of us home is the the center of our world. It is where we design & manifest our future. Being at “home” is a feeling that makes us feel like we belong in the world. It is a predictable & secure place. It is where we manage our emotional & physical well being. It is our centering place to build and grow healthy relationships, where we orientate ourselves, maintain order, organize our lives & improve our productivity as an employee & student. So too, for aged-out foster youth once they receive their sense of home. It is a place where they can make plans for birthdays, holiday gatherings, & family dinners. It is a wellspring of inspiration to grow their confidence to go out into the world and work to improve their life. Home is the gateway for everything. It reflects how we show up in the world. “

Program for Torture Victims

February 23, 2020

“Program for Torture Victims’s marvelous massage therapist Alberto Vasquez’s farewell party last Wednesday Alberto is a professional masseuse trained in trauma-informed care who has been an integral part of PTV for the past 4 years, volunteering his time to provide much-needed massages to aid survivors in their healing journey. Along with his beaming smile and warm presence, he utilized the healing power of touch to help survivors work through the pain and PTSD resulting from torture and persecution. Many of our survivors who were initially reluctant about receiving massages would leave the massage session blissfully relieved of their pain and ask to sign up for future massage appointments. Those who were afflicted with insomnia claimed a much better, restful night of sleep afterwards. He truly provided life-changing care for our survivors

We are lucky to have Alberto with us over the years and we wholeheartedly appreciate everything he has done for PTV He is greatly missed but we know that he is moving on to wonderful new opportunities and will continue to provide his clients with the best possible care.”
