Mission to Assist and Provide for Seniors (MAPS Charities) received a grant to support their core Senior Safety Net program over the next year. Funds will assist low income seniors by safeguarding shelter and purchasing life-changing medical devices, durable medical equipment and other items to help them remain healthy, safe and independent in their homes. MAPS Charities assists disadvantaged elderly people in Los Angeles County with funds for short-term solutions for critical concerns, by providing direct funds that allow them to stay in their homes, take care of their health and enhance their quality of life. MAPS Charities also received a grant from the Leo Buscaglia Foundation in March 2016.
It is common for seniors to experience loneliness and depression, especially when faced with overwhelming health and financial challenges. As MAPS charities serves some of the neediest seniors in Los Angeles, many of their clients have withdrawn from their families and social circles. By responding to an urgent need it helps restoring self-sufficiency, and giving clients a sense that they are not forgotten. MAPS charities helps seniors overcome mental and emotional health challenges. As a result they bring joy back to their families; return to providing companionship to peers; and become more capable of assisting family and friends with things like childcare.
