Friends Of Mark Twain Middle School – Seeds To Plate Program

Seeds to Plate grows students’ love of learning, healthy food, and nature through garden-based education.  Our program utilizes the natural world to give students a deeper understanding of their academic subjects while at the same time sowing seeds that can grow into global stewardship and healthy life choices.

Students love to cook whatever is in season. They say “yes!” to sauteed greens with garlic and olive oil.
During COVID, the garden pivoted to supply a food bank created by the school’s parent for students’ families in need.

UCLA interns play a big role in working with the students and the garden.
Students enjoy growing radishes because they grow fast. The students are curious about them, too.
