Mission stat We are the Source LGBT+ Center. We believe that when all people feel safe and included, they build lives that benefit their communities.
Our MISSION is to provide spaces within our communities for the LGBT+ population to learn, grow, belong, transform, question + support.
Nick Vargas, Co-Founder & Director of Development and Strategy & Immediate Past Board Chair
- Nick Vargas is mentoring Miranda, a young trans-woman at risk for homelessness. Their sessions typically involve checking in about her current situation and feelings and then working on skills. In this picture they are heading out to meet local business owners and ask for support for an upcoming event. In this way, Miranda can shadow and learn marketing and sales skills to use in a future job.
- On March 6, 2019 The Source participated in Equity On the Mall. It’s a day of advocacy to bring awareness to critical issues affecting Central Valley communities. The Source took several youth who are working with a mentor or are in our youth leadership academy. They got to meet with their elected officials and learn how to engage them.
- Former mentee, Rory Summers, delivers the key note poem in front of over 2,000 people. They were selected out of a large group of applicants. This shows the power of the mentor program and people helping people.
- With Assemblyman Devon Mathis. He’s a republican, but believes in the importance of our LGBT+ youth and supports our programs.
