- Top-reading students at Jefferson Elementary in Compton beam at their accomplishments.
- Vermont Ave. Elementary 5th grader Aliyah was so inspired by The Jester’s Reading Makes A Difference program sponsored by USC’s Good Neighbors Campaign that she asked to raise funds to donate even more Jester books and dolls. And she made bows for every donor, raising $330 in nickels, dimes and dollar. She happily presents a Jester book and doll to 3-year-old Elizabeth at CHLA, as Health Education Associate Mina Farag and The Jester’s Mom, Barbara Saltzman, look on.
- Second grade students at 32nd St./USC Magnet Center celebrate their reading – and giving – achievements sponsored by USC’s Good Neighbors Campaign with gusto, waving Jester rainbows and hand-made Jesters & Pharleys.
- Jefferson Elementary third-grader Vanessa in Compton proudly hands The Jester’s Mom a colorful bouquet of flowers, along with $600 raised from Jefferson families’ loose change to give additional Jester books and dolls to hospital patients in a challenge program sponsored by Innovative Solutions Insurance Services of El Segundo.
- Barbara Saltzman with “The Jester Has Lost His Jingle” author-artist David Saltzman at his graduation from Yale University in 1989. David died from cancer in 1990 at age 22. His family mortgaged their home to publish his book in 1995.
- Top-reading Lincoln Elementary students in Long Beach gather to present Jester books and dolls to Miller Children’s Hospital patients in 2001. Top-reading 4th grader Annie Pham, far right front row, was so motivated by the program, that she wrote The Phund in the 9th grade to report how much it meant to her and her classmates.
- Maxwell Elementary students in Anaheim proudly display how many pages they read in three weeks to help hospitalized children.
- Felton Elementary students in Lennox get into the spirit of The Jester at a recent Recognition Assembly.
