“To meet a young man whose life was changed by “The Jester Has Lost His Jingle,” remembers the day it was read to him and given to him 22 years ago, and continues to find joy, comfort and hope in it at 27 brings the story of “The Jester” full circle, and helps explain why The Jester & Pharley Phund continues to seek support (even the smallest amount) to help other children like Jesse.
It was a night to remember. At The Jester & Pharley Phund’s first “Soiree” in Redondo Beach, Barbara was introduced to Jesse, a 27-year-old man who credited the Jester book with saving his life. He had been diagnosed with terminal cancer at the age of 5. Barbara had visited the hospital he was in 22 years ago and he heard her read “The Jester Has Lost His Jingle” and the message resonated with him. He kept the book close to him and credited it with giving him the courage and the faith to go on. When they first met, they must have hugged for ten minutes — he had always wanted to see Barbara again to thank her in person. It has been two decades years since they last saw each other. What a wonderful surprise highlighting a terrific evening of good food and terrific silent auction items. It was a night to remember.”
