“Attention friends in NorCal: As you may have heard, one of our favorite things we do at Big Sunday is our We’re All in the Same Boat Project. Everyone is welcome on a 2-hour harbor cruise and there’s exactly one rule: Everyone has to meet at least one new person! This has been so popular here in LA, that we will, by special request, be hosting a cruise in San Francisco! It’s on Monday, July 30, from noon-2. Our guests of honor are a great bunch of vets from the San Francisco VA Medical Center. They’d love your company. Plus, there will others nice folks from the Bay Area – as always, from all walks of life – and we’d love to have you. We’ll have lunch, too! Please feel free to pass this on to friends who live or work in the Bay Area. During these divided and divisive times, it’s nice to remember and celebrate that we’re all in it together. (And BTW: the next cruise in SoCal is out of Long Beach on Sunday, July 22.) Interested in either? Email us at info@bigsunday.org. Thanks!”

Art of Yoga Project
They send specially trained yoga teachers and art educators into the system to teach a gender-responsive intervention program to promote girls’ self-awareness, self-respect and self-control. Several participants in the program have come back to be a teacher at AYP. One young lady after being a participant in the AYP program left the detention facility she was in, studied to receive her high school and college diploma, and went on to become a probation officer to other girls like she once was. The Art of Yoga Project also received a grant from the Leo Buscaglia Foundation in 2014.
Angelica Center for Arts and Music (ACAM)
Angelica Center for Arts and Music (ACAM) recieved a grant for their 2016 Spring Session. The mission of ACAM, a community based arts education organization, is to nurture and mentor at-risk youth in the arts in the greater Pico-Union neighborhood. ACAM seeks to empower youth, build self confidence and self-esteem by developing their creative talents and honing their skills in music, theatre and dance. They are under the fiscal sponsorship of the New City Parish.
ACAM helps foster the spirit of giving by asking parents to volunteer at least 4 hours during a session. Parents prepare and serve daily snacks, celebrate birthdays, help with family night event as announcers and vendors, create and install decorations, and cleanup. For concerts, parents collect donations and help with auditorium setup and breakdown. This is a concept they model from the top down even the organization president helps with keeping supply rooms organized. ACAM also received a grant from the Leo Buscaglia Foundation in 2013.
