Lutheran Alliance to Create Housing

LATCH is a coalition of Lutheran congregations whose mission is to build safe and nurturing communities that recognize the right to affordable housing, the importance of self-determination, and the value of mutual respect.  We work collaboratively to develop and maintain housing, create resident-managed rental cooperatives, and advocate for public policies that address the needs of our communities.

Hussein, age 10, poses with one section of the six-panel mural, completed by the Kids of the Courts last summer. Each panel had a theme, such as justice, peace and respect.

The Kids of the Courts brainstorm ideas for their community project last summer. The list gets longer, but in the end the Kids decide on a mural for their community.

The Kids of the Courts organize for a bicycle parade as part of their neighborhood block party. Several years ago, the neighborhood was known as one of the most dangerous in Seattle. Through the hard work of LATCH residents and the community, there is good reason to celebrate on this now quiet street.

The Kids of the Courts hard at work during the afterschool program. The program combines study with civic engagement projects, games, and snacks.
